well over 100 things about me

The original version below of “well over 100 things about me” was written in August/September 2005…

  1. This will end up being longer then 100 things about me.
  2. I do not know when to shut up.
  3. I was born in Austin. Not Austin, Texas. Austin, Pennsylvania… BIG population difference.
  4. I do not ever remember living there, just visiting.
  5. I was born in 1972.
  6. Since my birthday was in the summer, I did not get to have birthday parties at school like the other kids.
  7. That sucked. However, the only thing my mother ever made for me to take to school functions was “applesauce cake”, which the kids made fun of, so it was probably better that way.
  8. I learned to read at age 3.
  9. My first memory is of getting sick in the corner of our living room in Lawrenceville, PA. The carpet was blue.
  10. Cats are my favorite pets.
  11. My husband is nineteen years older then I am.
  12. We met because I went to work for him as a construction laborer.
  13. My mother found me the job.
  14. She told him she thought I was probably a lesbian.
  15. We were married in Jamaica.
  16. I got married in my bare feet.
  17. I will not wear open toed shoes.
  18. I do not really like to wear shoes.
  19. I also do not like to shop for shoes.
  20. Nor do I like to shop for clothes.
  21. I do love to shop for purses and bags.
  22. I also like to shop for yarn.
  23. Knitting has become my favorite craft.
  24. Spinning seemed to be a natural progression and I have taken that up as well.
  25. We recently got two llamas.
  26. I have a strong dislike for beige.
  27. At the time that I am writing this I am knitting a beige sweater.
  28. I have walls in my house painted bright yellow, deep purple, neon green, blue and red plaid, and a silverish grey leopardy faux finish. Not all in the same room! Though, if they were, knowing me, that probably would not surprise most people.
  29. I want to paint the living room a dark raspberry.
  30. I drive an Orange Honda Element.
  31. I just bought an Orange laptop bag.
  32. I do not wear a watch
  33. I carry two cell phones on a regular basis.
  34. I also carry a Blackberry.
  35. I bought a Palm Pilot to track Weight Watcher’s points.
  36. I no longer use it for that but it has become indispensable.
  37. When I travel for work I carry all that electronic stuff and their chargers.
  38. I wonder what the screeners at the airport think when my bag goes through the x-ray machine.
  39. I want to get out of the field of technology.
  40. I got into it because I wanted to get out of the field of accounting.
  41. My degree is a BSBA in Accounting.
  42. I am starting back for a Masters in Elementary Education.
  43. I hope that I have now figured out what I want to do when I grow up.
  44. Sometimes I feel like I am just playing at being an adult and am not doing a very good job of it.
  45. I am rather insecure.
  46. I used to be much more extroverted then I am now.
  47. My hair has been just about every color of the rainbow.
  48. I used to shave over half of my hair in high school.
  49. I do not have any pictures of it though.
  50. My mother threw my high school photo album away because she thought it would be good for my mental health.
  51. I never confronted her about that.
  52. She died when I had just turned twenty-three. She was 42.
  53. I was in the room when she died, though her death certificate says it was later in the morning at the hospital.
  54. The official cause of death was acute and chronic alcoholism.
  55. My grandmother seemed to give up her will to live when my mom died and she died ten months later.
  56. I miss them both but I think I miss my grandmother more.
  57. I feel guilty about that.
  58. My grandmother used to sing a rather macabre song to me as I was growing up; I have found variations of it on the web but not these exact lyrics:“In the Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia, stood a cow on the railroad tracks. Such a pretty little cow, with eyes so fine, but you can’t expect a cow to read a railroad sign. A train, came along the tracks, hit the cow, in the middle of the back. Now you’ll find her horns in the mountains of Virginia, and her tail in the Lonesome Pines.”
  59. She also used to read to my cousins and me the poem, “Little Orphant Annie”.
  60. My maiden name rhymes with “cow”. Kids used to moo at me throughout my years of school.
  61. If you were to see a video of my high school graduation, when my name was called, it sounds as though people are booing from one end of the football stadium to the other.
  62. They were not booing. They were mooing.
  63. I never understood those people who said, about childhood and teenage years, “these are the best years of your life.”
  64. I have spent a majority of my life depressed. Sometimes it swings the other way and I am manic.
  65. I prefer the manic state.
  66. I am not really sure what normal is, nor am I sure there is such a thing.
  67. I would rather stay up late then get up early but reality is usually the opposite.
  68. I have just started listening to audio books while I drive.
  69. My dad has been suggesting them to me for years.
  70. I should have tried them sooner considering how much time I spend in my car and how little time I allow for myself for reading.
  71. I take after my father in many ways.
  72. I am very glad that my stepsisters had children so that my dad has the opportunity to be a grandfather.
  73. I am childless by choice and had my tubes tied when I was twenty-eight.
  74. I am pro-choice. Not only for abortions but also for any medical decision a woman faces. Her body, her choice.
  75. While I was growing up I went to many different churches of a myriad of denominations.
  76. I am not a religious person.
  77. I am a registered democrat.
  78. I would not ever argue with someone against their beliefs as long as they are willing to also respect my differing opinions.
  79. Coffee is my favorite beverage.
  80. I do not like chocolate or cinnamon flavors in my coffee; nutty flavors are okay but plain is usually best.
  81. Decaf is a waste of time.
  82. I rarely wear makeup.
  83. I do not use anything on my hair but shampoo, conditioner, and a comb.
  84. I wear my wedding ring but no other jewelry.
  85. I like pins however; I do not consider them “jewelry”
  86. I rarely wear them either but more often attach them to my purse or bags.
  87. I do not like gold.
  88. I have never lived in any state other then Pennsylvania.
  89. Unless you count confusion.
  90. I only wear clothes to sleep in if I am not in my own bed.
  91. However, I will wear a t-shirt if I am cold.
  92. If I wear socks I take them off in my sleep.
  93. I need to lose a lot of weight.
  94. I would like a tattoo
  95. I cannot decide what I want though so I have not gotten one
  96. I am creative.
  97. It is hard for me to follow a pattern or a recipe as written.
  98. Because of this, I am not good at baking bread.
  99. I am a good cook, probably because I do not follow a recipe
  100. I rarely make something twice the same way
  101. Even if I try
  102. I am not a good housekeeper.
  103. I have too much clutter
  104. I wish I were a more organized person
  105. I tend to not watch TV as much as use it for background noise while knitting.
  106. Usually something like “E True Hollywood Stories” or “100 Worst Celebrity Moments”
  107. I have a very long Amazon Wish List
  108. I like almost anything made with cream cheese
  109. I got a Commodore Vic20 for my 12th birthday.
  110. I like liver and onions.
  111. I do not decorate for any holidays except Christmas
  112. Some years I do not even decorate for Christmas
  113. I really enjoy seeing other people’s decorations though
  114. I learned to knit from my grandmother as a small child.
  115. She also taught me to crochet
  116. I did not become good at either until I was an adult
  117. I re-taught myself out of books
  118. I have taught two people to knit this year
  119. It is an obsession but I consider it a productive and healthy one
  120. I have not had many friends as an adult
  121. Knitting groups have really helped me in that regard
  122. My last three vehicles have been standard transmission.
  123. It usually takes three days of driving a rental car before my left foot stays still.
